What is SOEC?
SOEC was created to give college students the opportunity to meet students from other schools and to learn from one another. You don’t have to be going into an outdoor related job to participate in the SOEC event; you can simply be interested in the outdoors or educating others. The weekend starts on Friday afternoon and wrap up on Sunday morning. Throughout Saturday, presentations are held with outdoor themes. These presentations are designed and presented by students from any of the schools attending the conference (including the host school) and you can present on anything that is outdoor related. Saturday night includes a banquet, with a keynote speaker.
Who can participate in the event?
Any undergraduate or graduate student who is currently enrolled in a college or university may participate.
General Information and History
This annual conference was developed 14 years ago, with a vision to help bring students together interested in the outdoors and has bean doing that ever since! Schools from all over the Midwest trail to the conference each year (even through treacherous snow storm) to meet new friends, and to experience and learn with others who love living and teaching in the outdoors.
The vision of SOEC is to grow each year, bringing more and more students the opportunities that the conference provides. Together, these students can share with each other what they have learned, and as a result, everyone walks away with a great network of people. This is your chance to come and meet your future colleagues!
This years theme is “What Lurks Beneath”. Come and discover how you can achieve your dream through student presentations, field trips, a keynote panel and much much more. We look forward to meeting and learning with you at the 2013 Student Outdoor Educators Conference.
